IBPS Clerk LPT 2026, officially called LLPT in the CRP CSA XVI notification dated 01 August 2026, is the final qualifying test after the Main exam and before joining. If you fail it, your provisional allotment is cancelled even if you topped the merit list. IBPS Clerk LPT 2026: Key Highlights
IBPS Clerk is now called Customer Service Associate (CSA) under CRP CSA XVI for vacancies of 2027 to 28. The selection has no interview. The merit is drawn only from the Main exam, but the language test is the gate before joining.

Key point: LLPT is not an extra chance to improve your score. It is a pass or fail filter. Clearing Mains with a high rank means nothing if you fail this test or cannot produce the exemption proof.

When and Who Conducts the Test
Timing creates most confusion about IBPS Clerk LPT 2026. The notification is very clear about when and by whom it is held.
Timing
- The test is after you qualify the Online Main examination. In practice it happens after the Main result and after provisional allotment, but before joining.
- Provisional allotment for CRP CSA XVI is scheduled for March 2027. The language test will be scheduled in the window between allotment and joining. The exact date and venue are communicated by the allotted bank, not by IBPS directly.
- Do not wait till March to prepare. Once allotted, banks give a short window to report with documents and appear for LLPT.
Who Conducts It
- The notification under Clause H says the test for knowledge of the specified or opted local language will be conducted as a part of selection by an independent body or by the Bank and will be marks based and qualifying in nature.
- The allotted Participating Bank reserves the right to cancel candidature if you do not qualify or do not have the required certificate. Its decision is final.
- Recent updates discussed by banking bodies suggest IBPS is moving LLPT to an independent agency with IBPS support to improve efficiency, but for 2026 the rule remains that the allotted bank is the final authority for conducting and deciding LLPT.
Warning: Provisional allotment is not an appointment letter. IBPS explicitly says it does not constitute an offer of employment. Your joining is subject to identity verification, eligibility verification, and LLPT qualification to the satisfaction of the allotted bank.
Who Is Exempt From LLPT
Exemption is the easiest way to clear IBPS Clerk LPT 2026 without appearing for the test. The rule is simple and is stated in both the eligibility clause and Clause H.
The Exemption Rule
You are exempt from LLPT if you produce a Class 10 standard or above mark sheet or certificate evidencing that you studied the specified or opted local language for that State or UT.
- Class 10 certificate is enough, but Class 11, Class 12, graduation or higher certificates also work if they clearly show the language as a subject.
- The certificate must be in original plus self attested photocopy at joining or document verification.
- You must have opted for the same language at the time of application. If you apply for Karnataka and opt for Kannada, only a certificate showing Kannada will exempt you.
What Counts as Proof
- A mark sheet where the language appears as a subject, for example Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Punjabi, Urdu, Tamil or Odia.
- A board or university certificate that lists the language.
- The document must be from a Board or University recognised by the Government of India.
Tip: Check your mark sheet now. If the language name is clearly printed as a subject, keep the original safe. If you claim exemption but cannot show the original at verification, you will be asked to appear for LLPT or face cancellation.
What If Your Marksheet Does Not Show Language
This is the most asked doubt about IBPS Clerk LLPT exemption. Many boards print subject codes, grades, or combine languages under one heading. Aspirants ask if code or indirect proof works.
If Language Is Not Explicitly Mentioned
- The notification requires a mark sheet or certificate evidencing having studied the specified or opted local language. The safest evidence is the language name printed as a subject.
- If your mark sheet uses a subject code without the full language name, or shows only English and a second language without clarity, banks may not accept it at verification.
- In communities and past cycles, candidates with ambiguous mark sheets were not given automatic exemption and were asked to appear for LLPT.
What to Do Now
- Get a certificate from your Board or school stating that subject code X corresponds to the specific language, for example code 002 equals Hindi or code 003 equals Kannada. This supporting letter plus the mark sheet helps at verification.
- If you studied the language in Class 11, Class 12 or graduation and that higher mark sheet clearly mentions it, use that instead. The rule says Class 10 or above, so a clearer higher certificate also qualifies.
- If no certificate clearly shows the language, do not risk depending on exemption. Prepare to appear and pass LLPT. It is better to prepare for a simple qualifying test than to lose allotment on a technical objection.
Choosing Language at Application
At the time of applying you must opt for ONE language from the list provided for that State or UT in Annexure III of the notification.

Choose the language you studied and can read, write and speak comfortably. Do not opt for a language you cannot write, because LLPT tests writing as well.
How the Language Test Is Conducted
If you are not exempt, you must pass the IBPS Clerk local language test. It is simple in level but strict in result. Banks need clerks who can handle customer queries in the local language, so they test practical comfort, not literature level grammar.
Skills Tested
As per Clause B VI and Clause H, you must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking and understanding the opted local language. The LLPT checks all four.
- Reading: You are given a short passage or official text in the local language and asked to read it aloud or answer questions on it. This checks if you can read branch notices, forms and customer letters.
- Writing: You may be asked to write a short paragraph, an application, or a letter in the local language. This checks if you can write basic replies and fill customer records. Spelling and grammar are checked at a basic level.
- Speaking: A short conversation with the examiner in the local language. You may be asked to introduce yourself, explain your background, or describe a banking situation in that language.
- Understanding: The examiner checks if you can follow instructions and comprehend spoken language. Often this is judged together with speaking and reading.
The test is marks based and qualifying in nature. The bank fixes a minimum qualifying mark. Your LLPT marks are not added to Mains marks and do not change your merit rank. You only need to pass.
What Happens If You Fail
- Candidates who fail to qualify this test will not be offered appointment and will be disqualified from the process.
- The bank reserves the right to cancel candidature on account of not qualifying LLPT. Even if you cleared Prelims and Mains and are on the provisional list, failure at LLPT ends the process.
- There is no retest in the same cycle. You have to apply again next year.
How to Prepare in 10 to 15 Days
You do not need advanced coaching for this test, but you do need daily practice if you are not using the language regularly.
- Read one local language newspaper daily for 20 minutes. Focus on reading aloud.
- Write one small paragraph daily. Pick topics like a letter to the branch manager, a leave application, or a description of your village or town.
- Speak for 10 minutes daily with a family member or friend in that language. Record yourself and correct pronunciation.
- Revise basic grammar: common letters, matras, simple sentence formation, and official words used in banks like account, deposit, withdrawal, and passbook in that language.
Pro Tip: After provisional allotment, keep in touch with your allotted bank’s regional office emails. Many small banks publish LLPT schedules only on their own website and give a short reporting window.
Documents Required for DV and LLPT
Document verification for IBPS Clerk happens at joining or document verification at the allotted bank. IBPS says no documents should be sent to IBPS or nodal banks before or after the exam. All documents must be produced to the allottee bank as per its directions.
You must carry originals plus self attested photocopies arranged in order. Non submission of any required document leads to debarring.

Photo Signature and Upload Specifications
Many IBPS Clerk applications are rejected at the upload stage itself. The notification under Annexure IV gives exact pixel and file size limits. The portal checks these strictly and will not let you proceed to the next stage if the size is wrong.

Handwritten Declaration Text
You must write this exact text in your own handwriting in English only with black ink on white paper. Do not write in capital letters. If you cannot write, get the text typed and put your left thumb impression below it.
“I, (Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required.”
Scanning and Upload Tips to Avoid Rejection
- Set scanner resolution to minimum 200 DPI, colour to True Colour.
- Crop tightly to the edge of the photo, signature, thumb impression or declaration after scanning, then resize to the exact pixels above.
- Preview before submitting. If the face, signature or declaration looks smudged or blurred, re-upload with better clarity.
- Put the photo at the place of photo and signature at the place of signature. Swapping places leads to rejection and denial of entry to the exam.
- Keep about 8 copies of the same uploaded photograph for call letter, attendance sheet and later stages. Do not change appearance till the process ends. Signature on call letter and attendance sheet must match the uploaded signature.
- Signature in capital letters is not accepted. Handwritten declaration in capital letters is also not accepted.
Common DV Rejection Reasons to Avoid
Even after scoring well in Mains, many selections are lost at IBPS Clerk document verification. The reasons are repeated every year and are all listed in the notification under Clause K and General Instructions.
1. Wrong Category Without Valid Certificate
- OBC candidates whose certificate does not have the non-creamy layer clause, or whose caste is not in the Central List, are not entitled to OBC reservation and must apply as General. If you claimed OBC but produce a state list only certificate or a creamy layer certificate, your reservation claim fails.
- OBC certificate must be issued on or after 01 Apr 2026 till document verification. An older certificate from 2025 is rejected.
- EWS Income and Asset Certificate must be valid for 2026 to 2027 for income of 2025 to 2026. A certificate for the wrong financial year is rejected.
- SC, ST, PwBD and EWS certificates must be exactly in the prescribed Government of India format annexed to the notification. Any other format is not accepted.
2. Result Awaited After Cut Off
- Graduation final result must have been declared on or before 21 Aug 2026. If your result was declared on 22 Aug 2026 or later, you are ineligible for this cycle even if you appeared for all semesters.
- The date on the mark sheet or provisional certificate is taken as proof. If your result was on the university website only, you must get a proper original document signed by the appropriate university authority showing the date of passing. A screenshot is not enough.
3. Language Mismatch and State Choice Error
- You can apply for only one State or UT and the choice is irrevocable. Applying for a state where you cannot read, write and speak the language is the costliest mistake. If you are not exempt, you will be called for LLPT and failure means provisional allotment cancelled.
- Claiming exemption without clear proof where the mark sheet does not explicitly mention the language often leads to dispute and you are then required to take LLPT.
4. Creamy Layer OBC Claiming Reservation and Other Frequent Errors
- Creamy layer OBC candidates who claim OBC reservation despite belonging to creamy layer are treated as General at verification. If you then do not meet General cutoff or age, you are out.
- Name mismatch between application, call letter and photo ID. The photo ID must bear exactly the same name as it appears on the call letter. In case of name change, you must produce original Gazette notification or marriage certificate or affidavit in original.
- Missing NOC for candidates serving in Government, Quasi Government, Public Sector Undertakings, Nationalised Banks or Financial Institutions. Without original NOC at joining, candidature is not considered.
- Wrong photo or signature files as described above, swapped files, smudged uploads, or signatures in capital letters that do not match at biometric verification.
- Computer literacy without proof. Operating knowledge alone is not enough. You need a Certificate, Diploma or Degree in operations or language or a mark sheet showing Computer or IT as a subject.
Final check before you submit: Your date of birth is within the allowed window as on 01 Aug 2026, your graduation date is on or before 21 Aug 2026, your category certificate is in the correct format and within the valid date range, and your opted state language matches a language you can prove or pass in LLPT. If any one fails, correct it in the 2 day edit window after registration closes. Remember the correction fee is ₹200 for all categories and only the latest modified application is treated as valid.
