How Army TGC Shortlisting Works
The Indian Army TGC selection has no written exam. The Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) shortlists applications only on engineering marks. It fixes a separate cutoff percentage for each engineering stream without giving reasons.
Only shortlisted candidates go to the SSB interview at Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru or Jalandhar. The SSB lasts five days and includes screening, psychology tests, group tasks and personal interview. Candidates recommended by SSB then face medical examination.
The final TGC merit list is prepared stream wise on SSB marks. Medical fitness plus a place within the stream wise vacancies decides joining at IMA Dehradun.
What Is TGC Entry?
TGC entry means Technical Graduate Course entry. It is a direct Permanent Commission entry for unmarried male engineering graduates in the Indian Army. Candidates join IMA Dehradun for 12 months training and become Lieutenant on successful completion, with one year ante date seniority.

TGC 144 Official Cutoff Marks
The Indian Army released the TGC 144 cutoff in July 2026 to shortlist candidates for SSB interviews for the January 2027 course. The Indian Army TGC 144 shortlist is based on cumulative engineering percentage up to the final semester for passed candidates and up to the 6th semester for final year candidates.

Civil has the lowest cutoff despite having the highest vacancies. Computer Science has the highest cutoff even with 6 vacancies. Electrical has only 2 vacancies, so even small changes in applications move its cutoff sharply.
Shortlisted candidates could select SSB dates from their profile on a first come first serve basis. SSB interviews for TGC 144 are held from July to October 2026.

Three clear trends stand out.
First, TGC 142 cutoffs were record high across all branches. CSE touched 89 percent. Electrical touched 85 percent. Mechanical touched 84 percent.
Second, TGC 143 cutoffs cooled slightly. Civil fell to 71 percent. Mechanical fell to 80 percent. CSE stayed strong at 87 percent.
Third, TGC 144 cutoffs fell further for core branches. Civil dropped 11 points to 60 percent. Mechanical and Electronics settled at 76 percent. CSE eased only by one point to 86 percent.
The TGC 2024 cutoff and TGC cut off 143 data confirm that past cutoffs do not guarantee future cutoffs. The Indian Army fixes fresh cutoffs every course based on applications received and vacancy to call up ratio.
Why TGC CSE Cutoff Stays Highest
The TGC cutoff for CSE stayed between 86 and 89 percent in the last three courses. The TGC BTech CSE cutoff is highest because a large number of computer science graduates apply, average CGPA in this branch is high, and only 6 posts are available.
The TGC cutoff for computer science also reflects strict stream grouping. Computer Science, Information Technology, M.Sc Computer Science and related disciplines compete in one pool. More applicants in one pool push the cutoff up.
Core branches behave differently. Civil, Mechanical and Electrical students have more government job options through other exams, so fewer high scorers apply for TGC. Civil also has 8 posts, the highest among all streams, which keeps its cutoff lower.
Note A high cutoff does not mean CSE gets preference in SSB or merit. Once shortlisted, all branches face the same five day SSB. Final selection depends on SSB marks and medical fitness, not engineering percentage.
How TGC Percentage Is Calculated
The TGC eligibility percentage rule is simple. The Indian Army uses cumulative percentage, not single semester marks.

Final year students can apply if they can submit proof of passing by 1 January 2027 for TGC 144 and produce the degree certificate within 12 weeks of training start at IMA. If your university gives CGPA, convert it as per university rules and enter the correct percentage. Wrong conversion can lead to rejection at document verification.
Can Final Year Students Apply?
Yes. Final year BE or BTech students in notified streams can apply for the Indian Army TGC 2026 courses. Their TGC shortlist percentage is calculated up to the 6th semester. They must clear all backlogs and submit the degree on time.
Vacancies vs Cutoff Link in TGC
The Army TGC recruitment 2026 cycle offers only 30 posts per course. Low vacancies are the main reason cutoffs stay high even without a written exam.

With only 30 posts, the Indian Army calls a limited number of candidates for SSB. When applications rise, the cutoff rises to control the vacancy to call up ratio. This is why TGC 142 cutoffs broke records when SSB batches were fewer.

TGC 145 Expected Cutoff Range
The TGC notification 2026 for the next course is the TGC 145 course for training starting in July 2027. No official TGC 145 cutoff is out yet. Treat 86 percent in CSE, 80 percent in Mechanical and Electrical, and 70 percent in Civil as minimum safety lines. If your aggregate is 2 to 3 points above the TGC 144 cutoff in your branch, your chance of SSB shortlist is strong.
