The uiic ao selection process has three rounds:

  1. Tier I Preliminary online test, qualifying only
  2. Tier II Mains online test plus Descriptive test on the same day
  3. Interview

You must clear sectional and overall cut offs at each stage. The Prelims score never counts in final merit. For Generalists, Mains objective and interview marks count in the ratio of 75:25. For Hindi Officers, Mains objective plus descriptive and interview marks count in the same 75:25 ratio.

Exam Pattern And Syllabus

The uiic ao exam pattern uses separate timing for each section. You cannot carry extra time from one section to another. All objective questions have multiple choices. Each wrong answer cuts one fourth of the mark for that question. There is no penalty for a skipped question.

Prelims pattern for both posts

Prelims is common for Generalists and Hindi Officers. It has 100 questions for 100 marks in 60 minutes.

SectionQuestionsMarksTimeMedium
English Language303020 minutesEnglish only
Reasoning353520 minutesEnglish and Hindi
Quantitative Aptitude353520 minutesEnglish and Hindi
Total10010060 minutes

UIIC shortlists enough candidates from each category for Mains. Prelims only decides who moves ahead.

Mains pattern for Generalists

Generalist Mains has 200 questions for 250 marks in 150 minutes, plus a descriptive paper.

SectionQuestionsMarksTime

Quantitative Aptitude506040 minutes
General Awareness with focus on Financial Sector406030 minutes
Computer Knowledge202010 minutes
Total objective200250150 minutes
Descriptive English, letter 10 plus essay 2023030 minutes

The descriptive test runs right after the objective test. You type the answers on the computer. UIIC checks the descriptive script only if you clear the objective cut offs.

Mains pattern for Hindi Officers

Hindi Officer Mains has 150 questions for 200 marks in 120 minutes, plus a longer descriptive paper.

SectionQuestionsMarksTime
English Language252520 minutes
Reasoning252530 minutes
Professional Knowledge of Hindi and English grammar, vocabulary, Official Language Acts and translation5010050 minutes
General Awareness252510 minutes
Computer Knowledge252510 minutes
Total objective150200120 minutes
Descriptive, English essay, Hindi essay, Hindi letter, English to Hindi translation, Hindi to English translation55060 minutes

The Professional Knowledge section alone carries half the objective marks, so Hindi Officer aspirants must give it top focus. For Hindi typing, UIIC supports Inscript and Remington (GAIL) layouts.

What to study

UIIC lists section names only. It does not publish a topic list. Based on the standard scope of insurance exams, plan for these areas:

  • English: comprehension, cloze test, para jumbles, error spotting, fillers, vocabulary and idioms
  • Reasoning: puzzles, seating, syllogism, inequality, blood relations, direction, coding and data sufficiency
  • Quant: simplification, number series, data interpretation, ratio, percent, profit and loss, interest, time and work, speed and distance
  • General Awareness: banking and insurance awareness, current affairs of last 6 months, budget, reports, static facts
  • Computer: basics, hardware and software, MS Office, internet, network and security
  • Hindi Officer professional part: Hindi and English grammar, Official Language Act and Rules, translation practice both ways

For current affairs and vocabulary practice, many aspirants use daily quizzes. The Scoreclever app schedules revision automatically so you do not forget what you learn. You can also try the daily Current Affairs League at 8 PM and Vocab League at 7 PM on Telegram.

Salary, Bond And Posting

The uiic ao salary starts at a basic pay of ₹82,485 per month. The revised Scale I pay scale moves from ₹82,485 to about ₹1,56,745 through yearly increments. At metro centres, gross pay is about ₹1,10,000 per month before deductions. Actual in-hand pay changes with city, allowances and NPS or tax cuts.

Officers also get dearness allowance, house rent allowance, city allowance, leave travel help, medical benefits, group accident cover, gratuity and pension under the National Pension System. Leased housing applies as per company rules.

Two service rules matter:

  • Probation: One year, which UIIC can extend after checking performance.
  • Bond: Minimum 5 years including probation. If you leave early, you pay back up to one year gross salary plus ₹35,000 for training cost. The amount falls in proportion if you serve more than one year.

Posting is anywhere in India. The company places officers as per need. Transfers follow the transfer policy for officers.

UIIC AO Vs Other Officer Jobs

Many aspirants compare uiic ao vs lic aao, uiic ao vs niacl ao and uiic ao vs ibps po. All four are officer posts with all India posting, but the work differs.

Is UIIC AO easy? No paper is easy at this level. UIIC AO has sectional timing and negative marking, so speed with accuracy matters. English counts in merit for Generalists, unlike some exams where it is only qualifying.

Pick UIIC AO if you want general insurance work with a mix of office and field tasks. Pick LIC AAO if you prefer life insurance and a larger brand network. Pick IBPS PO if you want core banking and faster transfer exposure across branches.

Is UIIC AO A Good Govt Job?

Is UIIC AO a government job? Yes. UIIC is a public sector general insurer under the central government. AO is a Scale I officer post with regular pay, NPS pension and service rules.

Is UIIC AO a gazetted officer? No. Public sector insurance officers are not central gazetted officers. They hold officer rank inside the company with signing and approval powers, but they do not get gazetted status.

Is UIIC AO conducted every year? No. UIIC announces AO hiring as per need. Gaps of one or more years are common, so apply in the year it opens.

Is UIIC AO a good job? For many graduates, yes. It offers officer pay, job safety, all India exposure and steady promotion to higher scales. The 5 year bond and transfer liability suit those ready for long service.

Is UIIC AO exam easy? The Prelims checks basics, but Mains is wide. General Awareness with focus on finance, plus descriptive writing, decides merit. Start Mains topics with Prelims itself because the window between 22 October and 30 November is short.

What to do next?

The window is short. It closes on 28 September 2026. Check your degree marks and birth dates against the 30 June 2026 cut off today. If you qualify, fill the form on uiic.co.in early and keep the printout safe.

Then start a daily loop. Read finance current affairs, practise puzzles and data sets, and write one letter and one essay every week. Join our Current Affairs League at 8 PM and Vocab League at 7 PM to test speed under time pressure.
