A candidate can apply for the Office Assistant post and also for an Officer post. However, in the officers cadre, a candidate can apply for only one post, either Officer Scale I, Scale II, or Scale III. You must apply and pay the fee separately for each post you choose.

What is IBPS RRB Exam?

The IBPS RRB exam is a common recruitment process run by IBPS every year to select candidates for jobs in Regional Rural Banks. Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) are government banks set up to provide banking services in rural and semi-urban areas. They are jointly owned by the Government of India, the sponsoring public sector bank, and the state government. Each RRB is known by its local name, such as Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, Bihar Gramin Bank, or Telangana Grameena Bank.

Tripura Gramin Bank vacancies were marked Not Reported in the 01 September 2026 notification. In the revised Annexure I dated 09 September 2026, IBPS added 39 Office Assistant posts for Tripura Gramin Bank (SC 6, ST 12, EWS 3, General 18). Officer Scale I, II and III vacancies remain unchanged. Final allotment is based on the actual vacancies reported by the RRBs.

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, make sure you meet all the eligibility conditions. The criteria are evaluated as on the last date of online registration, which is 21.09.2026.

Nationality

You must be a citizen of India. Subjects of Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibetan refugees who came to India before 01.01.1962 are also eligible, provided they have a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India.

Age Limit

The age is calculated as on 01.09.2026. The table below shows the age limits for each post.

The age limits above are for General and EWS category candidates. Reserved category candidates get additional relaxation as shown below.

Educational Qualification

The essential qualification for each post is a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. The result must be declared on or before 21.09.2026.

Local Language Proficiency

For Office Assistant and Officer Scale I posts, you must be proficient in the local language of the RRB you are applying for. The local language for each state is listed in the RRB table above.

If you have studied the local language up to class 8 or above in a government recognized school, you will be considered proficient. If you do not meet this requirement at the time of selection, you will be given six months from the date of joining to acquire proficiency.

Application Fee

The fee must be paid online during the registration period from 01.09.2026 to 21.09.2026. Bank transaction charges for online payment will be borne by the candidate.

Note: If you are applying for both the Office Assistant and an Officer post, you must pay the fee separately for each application.

IBPS RRB Exam Pattern

The IBPS RRB exam pattern 2026 follows a two stage process for Office Assistant and Officer Scale I, and a single stage process for Officer Scale II and III. Understanding the pattern is the first step of preparation.

Prelims Pattern (Office Assistant and Scale I)

The Preliminary exam is a qualifying test with 80 questions for 80 marks in 45 minutes.

You must clear the minimum cutoff in both tests to move to the Mains exam.

Mains Pattern (Office Assistant and Scale I)

The Mains exam has 200 questions for 200 marks. You can choose either English or Hindi as your language section.

For the Office Assistant post, final selection is based on the Mains exam score alone. For Officer Scale I, the Mains score is combined with the interview in the ratio 80:20.

Single Level Exam (Officer Scale II and III)

Officer Scale II (General Banking Officer) and Officer Scale III appear for a single online exam with the same structure as Mains, but with Financial Awareness instead of General Awareness.

Negative Marking

There is a penalty for wrong answers in every exam. For each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks (one fourth of the marks assigned to that question) are deducted. Leaving a question blank carries no penalty, so avoid blind guessing.

Selection Process

The complete selection process for IBPS RRB 2026 differs slightly for each post. Here is how it works.

Office Assistant (Multipurpose):

There is no interview for the Office Assistant post. Candidates are provisionally allotted to the RRB of the state they applied for, based on merit and the actual vacancies.

Officer Scale I:

4. Provisional allotment based on combined merit

Officer Scale II and III:

1. Single Level Online Exam

The interview carries 100 marks. Minimum qualifying marks are 40% for General candidates and 35% for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates. The interview is coordinated by the Nodal Regional Rural Banks with the assistance of NABARD and IBPS.

Remember: For the Office Assistant post, the Mains exam score alone decides your final selection. For officers, the final merit list is prepared from the exam score and interview. Every mark counts, so aim to score high in the merit list, not just above the cutoff.

Officer Scale I Salary

An Officer Scale I starts with a basic pay of around ₹48,480 per month. With allowances such as Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Special Allowance, and others, the gross monthly salary comes to about ₹80,000. After deductions like NPS and tax, the approximate in-hand salary is around ₹74,500 per month.

Office Assistant Salary

An Office Assistant (Multipurpose) starts with a basic pay of around ₹24,050 per month. With allowances, the in-hand salary typically ranges between ₹30,000 and ₹37,000 per month, depending on the posting location and applicable allowances.

Important Points While Filling the Form

The name, email ID, mobile number, state, post, and nationality fields cannot be edited after submission. Fill every detail with care. After registration closes, IBPS will provide a 2 day Edit Window to correct your application, with a correction fee of ₹200. In this window you can change your category from General, EWS, or OBC to SC, ST, or PwBD, but you cannot change your name, post, or state.
